There’s a moment in the lead-up to your wedding when the ceremony stops feeling like just another part of the day. Suddenly it all starts feeling a little bigger than you imagined!
Whether they’re reading their first draft or we’re on our final call, couples often tell me they didn’t expect to feel so emotional. Some start to worry that the nerves or tears will get in the way. You are human and that’s completely normal. It happens because the ceremony is a rare moment when everything slows down and you actually get to experience it.
When It Hits
The sense of it being ‘bigger’ can come at different times:
- Reading your ceremony for the first time
- Thinking about walking down the aisle
- Realising everyone is focused on this moment with you
- Feeling the meaning behind your vows
- When you’re pronounced married (this one gets me when I’m practising my ceremonies!)
It can be surprising because until that point it might have felt like just another checklist item in wedding planning.
What You Might Feel
When that shift happens, it can show up as:
- Excitement and anticipation
- Nerves or tension
- Feeling more vulnerable than expected
- Tears or a lump in your throat
None of this is wrong and it’s really just a part of being present. It’s part of why the ceremony matters!
Why It Feels Different
The ceremony is the one part of your day designed for presence.
Everything else moves quickly, from hair appointments to photos to the reception. During the ceremony, there is space for adrenaline to settle and for you to actually feel the moment. You are not rushing, you are not distracted and everyone around you is engaged.
This makes the emotional impact stronger than other parts of the day.
What You Can Do
Sorry to tell you, but if you were looking for a ‘fix-it’ solution, there’s nothing to fix here! You don’t need to control it or hold it together perfectly.
Instead:
- Focus on each moment as it happens
- Accept what you feel instead of trying to manage it
- Trust that the flow of the ceremony is guiding you naturally (I’m there for that, too!)
- Breathe and notice the people around you and the experience you are having
This is your time. Just let it happen.
How I Help
I am there to make sure you’re supported and confident throughout the ceremony. My role includes:
- Keeping the pace comfortable
- Helping you know what happens next
- Making sure nothing feels confused or rushed
That way, you get to be in the ceremony fully and you don’t have to manage it.
If you’d like help shaping a ceremony that feels true to you both, I’d be delighted to support you with that as your celebrant.
Just get in touch.
Lots of love,
Rev. Arlene x
